This blog revolves around Engineering 103, Section 102, Group 6's project for the class. The challenge that the group faces is to design a device that will allow people with hemiplegia or an amputated arm to cut food in an easy and civilized manner. The issue is that without any sort of device, a person with the use of only one arm would be dependent on someone else to cut their food for them. The devices that exist today for one-handed people to cut foods are only useful for cutting soft foods. The group has a particular scenario in mind in the design of the device. In this scenario the user is at a nice restaurant and is trying to cut a particularly tough food like steak. The user needs to effectively, and easily, cut and eat the steak in such a way that is civilized and doesn't attract a lot of attention from other customers in the restaurant. This blog will be updated every week with our progress as we attempt to make the device.
